When the Need to Belong Is Satisfied, People Thrive

In contrast, more traditional cultures, such as those in the Far East, encourage community, family, and interdependence. These cultures emphasize bringing honor to the family group. In traditional cultures, people have more structure within their communities. Families -- both immediate and extended -- provide support for one another. Unlike more modern cultures, being part of a group is more important than being an individual in traditional cultures. What does the emphasis on the individual versus the group have to do with BPD? The physical liver has more than seven hundred unique tasks that it's responsible for, and it is a primary player in the production and metabolization of hormones. It governs ligaments and tendons, whose health is crucial to the physical body. The liver meridian makes sure the liver has enough energy to perform all its tasks. Because the energy of the liver meridian is on the control cycle with the spleen meridian, it helps dictate the energy of the spleen, and when one is strong, the other tends to be deficient. Most often, the liver energy tends to be excessive, while spleen energy tends to be deficient--yet another reason why it's important for us to strengthen the spleen meridian. Other Important Concepts: Meridian Strengthening, Sedating, and Control Points We have built-in systems of the body that soothe, calm, and repattern the nervous system and many of the energy systems. There are specific acupoints, places where the meridian lines rise close to the surface of the body, that we can hold to help release trauma, help our immune system to function better, help calm the stress response, and help move pain out of the body. These are locations where there is a lower electrical resistance than in other areas. Donna Eden, David Feinstein, and Gary Craig, in their article The Promise of Energy Psychology, note that MRI studies have shown that stimulating specific points on the skin not only changed brain activity; Even to the point are you even on the court or the field? Or are you just in the bleachers watching other people make it happen? Once you figure out yourself, you know your goals, and you fully figure out a way to navigate those goals. Even if your goals are sex.

I heard Too Short say this in an interview years ago, and someone asked him what's the best way to get sex. Do you know what he said? The best way to get sex from a woman is not to try to get sex from a women. No, I didn't learn this from him. I was already aware of it, but it's true. The fact that he's an OG and he's been in the game since the 80s, and he has adopted this mindset, and I've adopted the same mindset that I didn't actually get from him lets me know that this is true. I do not remember playing with other kids during recess in elementary school, and I do not remember wanting to or caring, either. On occasion, I was forced to join in team sports, and I was always the slowest runner and was picked last for teams. If I ever had to work in a group, I could only do so if I was the leader or if I was in charge. Otherwise, it was a disaster and I threw a tantrum. I was never shy, but I worked and played better alone. So at recess, I was fine to just sit at the top of the playground and daydream or talk with the teachers as they came by and sat with me. I did always have one or two people in every class who would actually talk with me (the geeky or outcast kids) and who offered to hang out with me after school sometimes. I always had plenty of interaction with others. No Interest in Fashion or Clothing I remember that the social dynamics were far more complex in junior high. These types of people usually have no problem because the people around are helping them. You need to ask yourself if you are ready to waste time and energy on people who are just using you. Skilled Text Player It's okay to misunderstand someone's words or actions occasionally.

Still, a skilled manipulator will deliberately say something in a certain way so as not to be held responsible for their actions. Furthermore, when they see your reaction, they will distort it, so you seem to be the one who misunderstood you. They also claimed that they never promised Anything. You must always keep the promise of such manipulators. Unrealistic Promises Do you remember those times when you made rash promises under pressure? What can you do to change yourself and your contact, interactions, and reactions to that person? Focusing on the other person gives him or her power over you. You must refuse to allow that person to affect you. The real problem lies in how you are relating to a difficult coworker. Problem 5: Critical Attitudes Are you trying to win him or her over? Do you let him or her make you angry? Are you internalizing the criticism and getting down on yourself? How effective is your way of handling the criticism? Allow those people to be who they are, but keep yourself separate from them and do not internalize their opinion of you. I have journalled. I have spent most of the night awake, distressed at the thought of coming. I have had three bouts of diarrhoea this morning. And when it comes to it, my therapy hour will run short.

Get over it, I try saying to myself, but I feel crushed and ashamed. I'm not even worth a whole hour. And she's been sitting there all along, shuffling papers. I hate her. But more than that, I hate myself, for overreacting. After all, I don't have a right to counselling. The mother then grabbed his shoulders, demanding he stop. Staci saw the boy grip his jaw, hold his breath, and tighten his small chest to keep from sobbing. This story isn't meant to shame the mother. Staci could see that she was terrified herself, with her anger being one way to release her fear. But I do want to draw attention to two things: first is the fact that containing this kind of survival-based energy--either because we couldn't run away or we couldn't cry and shake afterward--can provoke long-term complications. If we can't release our sympathetic response, energy that was meant to help us fight or flee remains bottled up. The trauma that began outside our body becomes lodged inside, engendering symptoms of posttraumatic stress. Second, emotionally expressing survival-based energy can run counter to social convention. Some of us will have been taught to shun rather than encourage intense emotional expression such as crying and screaming. When the parent at the intersection scolded her son, she herself was frightened. Mesoderm forms the kidneys and heart, the axis of our body. The heart is well accepted as the most important organ in embryogenesis and life. In Chinese medicine the Kidneys are seen as equally important to the Heart - they are Yin to the Heart's Yang. The reason for this that is the Kidneys store and are the origin of what the Chinese consider to be one of the Three Treasures of our inner life: Jing.

Jing is the fount of our life, the alchemy of Yin and Yang that we inherit from our parents, our constitution. It is the seed of life from which our body springs, flowers and then seeds. This energy is stored within and by our Kidneys,* it creates our body, guides its development, manifests its change into adulthood, and its decline leads us into our old age and senescence. If there is one thing that you want more of, it is probably Jing. Those (annoying) people in life who can work 18-hour days, spend their lunchtime scaling mountains, and can apparently do this forever without ill-effects, exhibit great Jing. In Taoist thought it is one of the Three Treasures - Jing, Shen and Qi - that need to be nourished for a long life. Therapy is the initial step on the rehabilitation journey. What's new in hospital treatments? Tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), a clot-dissolving drug, has proven to be a groundbreaker in the treatment of ischemic type strokes. However, tPA cannot be administered if the patient has had a hemorrhagic stroke. Therefore, it is imperative to diagnose what type of stroke the patient is having before treatment is considered. First, a neurologist observes symptoms and immediately uses magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which uses a large magnet and radio waves to produce an image of the brain. A neurologist can use this image to determine what type of stroke has occurred. If the stroke is determined to be ischemic, tPA must be administered within 3 to 4 hours of the onset of stroke symptoms. This means many ischemic stroke patients do not have the chance to use this treatment; Other medical conditions and/or advanced age could also preclude the use of tPA. Her cancer, her dying, and her suffering are calling out to you. Now you must answer her call, listen to the hand by your side that wants to reach out to hers, and sit beside her while she dies. This is so uncomfortable! We feel pain too as our dreams for her and the therapy burn up.
