This looks like an attempt to give a facade of democratic respectability to yet more madcap anti-CO2 nonsense from the UK government. How much can the country take before economic rot sets in?

Letters are being sent to 30,000 households across the UK inviting people to join a citizens’ assembly on climate change.
Once participants are selected, the assembly will meet next year, with the outcome of their discussions reported back to Parliament.
The initiative, set up by cross party MPs, will look at what members of the public can do to reduce CO2.
The UK government has committed to cut carbon emissions to net zero by 2050.
Rachel Reeves, chair of the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Committee, one of six select committees who commissioned the climate assembly, said a clear roadmap was needed to achieve this goal.
“Finding solutions which are equitable and have public support will be crucial,” she said.
“Parliament needs to work with the people and with government to address the challenge of climate change.”

I can’t help thinking that the selection will not be random. For a start whoever decided on this is looking for a self selected group that will fit the ‘no carbon’ answer they want. For a truly random group they would send out a lot more 30,000 letters to all parts of the UK, not just the parts that ER and FoE hale from.
The whole thing is a blatant gimmick. ‘Fixing the climate’ or whatever they want to call it is a bad joke.
Democracy where the people vote isn’t working out for them, so they are going to select their own group of voters, then declare the result is what the people want.

This is all sounding like a rerun of the USSR and their central planning committees and their 5-Year Plans. Plans that always seemed to get revised and pushed down the road another couple of years. Again. And again. And.. well you get the idea. I guarantee that the ‘zero carbon’ BS will get the same treatment as it is IMPOSSIBLE to meet an idiot goal like that. So, we move the goalposts.
Consider just this one factor: Humans produce just around 3.5% of the CO2 generated per year. Nature produces the rest. This is based on many investigations, papers, and reports from the credible scientists that even the warmists accept. So if we totally wiped out all humankind the temperature some 50 years from now would be different by maybe one-tenth of a degree by the warmists’ guesstimates. To get there the UK will be freezing in the dark. Good show.
The natural carbon cycle will plough on regardless. Nature finds its own equilibriums.
It must be put about much more loudly that UK only produces one and a bit percent of CO2 global emissions – such a pity that in that interview by Farage of a maniacal female ER person he didn’t ask her what she was doing about China, India and the Third World. Either we are doomed by Chinese CO2 or not. ER must choose. If they think we are doomed, they are duty bound to do something about it. I would grant them the CO2 for their
air passage to Beijing.
Further to. If ER are not going to take on China and India, they are clearly NOT SERIOUS and must be laughed at.

Yes, UK produces about 1% of the carbon dioxide that MAN emits. Nature produces over 96% of CO2 emissions, making the UK’s share 0.04%.

All they’re going to find is that such ‘solutions’ don’t exist, however many random amateurs they ask. Much easier to discover that there isn’t anything that they can solve, as the Earth and its natural climate go on their merry way regardless.
If we’re lucky the next glaciation is still some way off.
You guys need to elect a Parliament that will respect the voters and demand civil service be accountable, that police enforce laws equally, and that anti-science anti-democracy groups like XR be shut down
