Congress alleging misuse of agencies because that is what they did: Nirmala
MYSURU: Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Thursday that she was shocked and saddened by allegations of vendetta politics by Congress on the arrest of her predecessor, P Chidambaram, in the INX Media case.
“The comments we are hearing about the arrest (of Chidambaram) has shocked me. If the Enforcement Directorate, CBI or any other agency has reasons to question someone, you (Congress) call it vindictive politics?” she said, addressing the media after meetings with tax authorities and industry leaders here.

“As workers of a party that has been in power for decades, I think they must respect the law and cooperate with the authorities who seek information. As a responsible political party, that’s the way,” she said. On allegations by opposition leaders that government agencies are being misused, she shot back, “Congress can allege because that’s what they did when they were in power. They don’t understand that a government can function without misusing agencies.”
