You can have a say in soil, water conservation as board member

Nominations will be accepted for the two-year term of the office of director of the Kane-DuPage Soil and Water Conservation District starting Dec. 13.

To be considered for nomination as a candidate for the office of director, nominees must be of legal voting age and provide proof of residency or ownership of land located within the boundaries of the district.

Nominating petitions may be obtained at the district's office at 2315 Dean St. in St. Charles during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

Petitions will be available after Dec. 13.

Petitions must be signed by a minimum of 25 persons who are of voting age and who reside or own land within the boundaries of the Kane-DuPage Soil and Water Conservation District.

Completed petitions must be returned to the district's office by no later than 4:30 p.m. Jan. 21.

The Kane-DuPage Soil and Water Conservation District is guided by a five-member board of directors. The board, district staff and the district Conservationist assigned by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service develop annual and long-range plans that direct the activities of the district.

These districts have no taxing authority. Funding is provided in part by the Illinois Department of Agriculture.
