Adele's Genius References in Her "Easy on Me" Video Pay Homage to Some of Her Classic Music Videos

Everyone knows Adele's truth lives through her music, and as she recently mentioned to British Vogue about her forthcoming album, her new music will be about the "self-destruction, then self-reflection and then sort of self-redemption" she's endured during her divorce from ex-husband Simon Konecki. The house she's seen exiting in the "Easy on Me" video is the same one she moves into during her "Hello" video. The scene where she's walking out of the door of that house is allegedly a reference to leaving her husband and filing for divorce.

In "Easy on Me," Adele is captured in almost the same exact shot of her on the phone as she is in "Hello" — even the dialogue syncs up. She mentions that she may hit some bad cell-phone reception during a call as she's leaving the house but then says, "Yes, I can hear you perfectly, can you hear me?" She has a similar line in the video for "Hello" when she says, "I just can't hear and I think I'm losing signal already," before ironically calling out, "Hello, can you hear me now?"

In Adele's 2010 "Rolling in the Deep" video, she can be seen sitting in a chair of a barely furnished home, and yes, that chair is quite similar to the one she's sitting in for this particular shot of "Easy on Me." Of course, this time the room is fully furnished. The subtle call-out makes us wonder if her next visual will follow the same pattern.

The car scene toward the middle of "Easy on Me" loosely references a similar scene of Adele in her 2009 video for "Chasing Pavements," where she looks away as she sings toward the window.
