COIMBATORE: A report on what went wrong in the soft landing of Chandrayaan-2’s Vikram lander on lunar surface will be released soon for the public, S Somanath, director of Isro’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (Thiruvananthapuram), said on Thursday.
Somanath was speaking to reporters here after inaugurating an industrial facility for manufacture of rayon-based carbon fabric to be used in rocket nozzles.

Speaking about the moon mission, he said they were trying to establish contact with the lander. “We haven’t got any information yet. We have got help from other space agencies like Nasa. They have attempted in getting the images of the lander, we have not yet received them,” he said.
Somanath said they were trying to understand what happened during the landing on September 7. “Studies are going on. We would soon publish a report for the public,” he said. It would help solve issues in real landings in future, he added.
He said, Isro is getting ready for next launches like PSLV C47 and 48, GSLV F10. “We are also working on human space programmes where we would fly astronauts to space and safely bring them back. We are also working on the launches of Aditya L1 and Mars Orbiter Mission-2,” he said.
“The fund Isro receives from the government is 1/10th of what space agencies in the US, Europe and China receive from their respective governments. But we are efficiently using the funds for projects and are a very productive organisation,” he said.
