The new release uses precious home-grown barley from the Speyside region, previously limited to The Macallan’s most exclusive and sought-after releases.
The elegant gift box, produced by Hunter, embraces the estate’s character with landscape-inspired designs and a natural slate inlay, carrying recessed transcript lettering, to reflect the native stone found on the Easter Elchies estate. Inside, aerial photography showcases the estate’s impressive barley fields on the banks of the beautiful River Spey.
Seen as the industry’s first ever natural slate and rigid box required Hunter to search for the right quarry to achieve the desired quality and finish. Every piece is hand-cut, unique and subject to extensive testing. The surrounding drawer-box was designed specifically to counterbalance the slate and uphold a seamless customer experience.
Hunter’s managing director Mike Banister said: “It’s a privilege and honour to work with a brand of such stature as The Macallan and deliver a brand experience as imaginative as this. It’s our most technical packaging project to date, requiring creativity and diligence to capture the brand’s peerless provenance and heritage.”
In addition, Hunter claims it is creating a ‘revolution’ in plastic film bags in conjunction with Paptic. Sourced from sustainable wood fibre, delivering the qualities of both paper and plastic, this could be a genuine game-changer for cosmetic, gifting and luxury shopping bags.
