Less than two weeks ago, singer-songwriter and former Fifth Harmony member Normani Kordei went viral when she dropped the music video for her new hit single, "Motivation." The early '00s-inspired video has garnered more than a whopping 22 million views since its debut — that, and countless celebrities, including Kelly Rowland, have promoted it. So, naturally, everyone has been waiting patiently (or in our case, not so patiently) to see what the rising star would wear to tonight's VMA awards. Turns out, it's even better than we imagined.
The 23-year-old star stepped out on the red carpet wearing a multi-colored metallic gown and stunning, shimmery eye makeup to match. Kordei's makeup artist, Grace Pae, complemented the purple tones in her dress with a matching violet eye and a hint of gold in the inner corners. Pae has yet to post a breakdown of the look, but it appears that she swept a bold purple shadow all over the lids and then blended a sunset-pink shade upwards into the crease.
The pro also smoked out the singer's top and bottom lash lines with black kohl liner for a sultry effect and then added falsies for a little extra glamour. The rest of the makeup was kept simple and neutral, with what appears to be just a clear gloss on the lips and nude hues on the skin. Pae also brushed up the singer's brows to a slightly bushy-yet-defined perfection.
As for her hair, she kept it simple and sleek as not to take away any of the attention from her makeup or dress, which were clearly meant to be the star of the show. Celebrity hairstylist Jay “Stay Ready” gave the singer side-swept waves using a flatiron and Sauve products, like its Natural Hair Define & Shine Serum Gel and the Sleek Anti-Frizz Smooth & Shine Cream. "Normani and I wanted to go with graceful, flowing waves to draw attention to her sparkly, colorful outfit, and to show off her amazing abs," said Jay in a statement sent to Allure via email.
All this to say: We can't wait to see more red carpet looks from this talented vocalist. If this makeup moment is any indication, her future looks are bound to be incredible.
