  • The advanced IoT solution will enable developers to create IoT devices with the integration of X-CUBE-IOTA1 and STM32Cube.
  • All this will hugely benefit several industries, especially the energy and the logistics sectors.

The IOTA Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that works on creating fully-decentralised distributed ledger technologies, is collaborating with the global semiconductor giant, STMicroelectronics to provide a powerful and seamless way to access Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities, which is cost-effective as well.

It is expected that this will allow the ST user community to easily and quickly prototype new IoT solutions for single/multiple devices. At the same time, developers can make use of IOTA Tangle’s distributed and peer-to-peer network solution and IOTA functionalities to develop systems and services.

Specialised software & hardware integration

Alessandro Cremonesi, STMicroelectronics VP System Research and Application stated that this creation of IOTA functionalities via the integration of X-CUBE-IOTA1 with STM32Cube software will enable developers to include IOTA features in their IoT devices and create valuable applications using the STM32 Open Development Environment, which combines the STM32 32-bit microcontroller family with other state-of-the-art ST components.

The enhanced IoT solution will advance the performance capabilities of several key industries such as energy, logistics and others in areas of sensing, power management, connectivity and audio. Developers using STM32 will have the ability to transmit, buy and sell relevant data through embedded technologies like Bluetooth® LE at low cost, with an easy, robust solution.

“With specialised hardware playing such an integral role in the Internet of Things market adoption, it is exciting to work with a partner like ST to enhance IoT’s role as an innovation facilitator,” said Holger Köther, Director of Partner Management, IOTA Foundation.

He further added that this collaboration with ST will help IOTA Foundation to focus on their mission of moving beyond blockchain with the world’s first scalable, feeless and fully-decentralized DLT platform.
