The YouTube Morning Show Dream Team

This article is more than 5 years old.

Morning news and commentary shows are time-tested formulae that are never going away. Millions still tune in every day, because there’s something comforting about a handful of hosts sitting around a table, calming discussing the events of the day as opposed to a hard-hitting serious and shouty news broadcast of the night.

As YouTubers age, it’s only a matter of time before they want to watch a YouTube-related news show that is more grown-up and not cartoonishly trumpeted like say,  Keemstar’s DramaAlert. The latest YouTube update, controversy, brand deal, new break-out creators and notable channel growth would be regular topics on such a morning show.  A handful of educated, trusted, older hosts from the YouTube ecosystem, giving their opinion the news, with some light debate, would go a lot farther to educate and informs viewers than a single host, too. If a TV producer with the capabilities to make this morning YouTube news show happen is somehow reading this post, my dream team pick is Joes Goes (real name Joe Hanson), Kassem G (real name Kassem Gharaibeh), and Shira Lazar.

Philip DeFranco and Casey Neistat are obvious choices for this team but I do not include them because both already have their own related-projects going on. Shira Lazar also has her own show, What’s Trending, but I include her on my dream team because of this 2017 interview that reveals just how great the repertoire between Joe Goes, Kassem G, and Shira Lazar actually is. The three manage to joke around while also shedding light on the YouTube economy.

Kassem G called himself an “over-the-hill” YouTuber in the interview and is delightfully self-deprecating because his fame-dom has waned and he knows it. The last time he was relevant was in 2013. However, Kassem G was one of Maker Studios original co-founders and got a nice payout when the MCN was purchased by Disney, so he doesn’t really need to work let alone make YouTube videos for a living. Kassem G would bring the “smart, thoughtful investor who has been at the top and the bottom” vibe to the table.

Joe Goes has a kind of sad Eeyore, poor fool thing going on, that he uses for comedic purposes. Unlike Kassem G, Joe Goes never made it big on YouTube and has never seen the heights of YouTube fame. However, Joe Goes’ entire video library of man-on-the-street interviews (at conventions) reveals him to be one of the best interviewers on the entire platform -- even better, in my opinion, than Shira Lazar, who also has experience broadcasting on TV. He's been on hiatus since October 2017, sadly.

Shira Lazar is the cheerful, upbeat and most professional one in this bunch, again, already having her own show and all. iJustine, Mr. Chi City, Ryan Higa and Tyler Oakley would also be good additions to this rotating cast of  YouTube veterans.  None of those listed have ever been disgraced or involved in any serious controversy. If a morning show isn't possible, any of the YouTubers listed above would make excellent pundits to explain YouTube phenomenon should the need on cable TV ever arise.
