There's A 'Fortnite' Fan Theory That Tilted Towers Is About To Get Flattened By A Comet

I never thought I’d end up writing the words ‘Fortnite’ and ‘fan theory’ in the same headline, as this isn’t Game of Thrones, but here we are, and something has been brought to my attention that I think is worth sharing. Here’s the long and short of it:

There’s a conspiracy theory that a comet is going to crash into the Fortnite map and blow up Tilted Towers.

Wait, what?

Stay with me.

In the last few days, players have noticed what appears to be a comet in the sky of the Fortnite map. It’s being brought up now because it’s gotten really noticeable lately, but in reality, the comet has been around for quite some time, spotted at least a few weeks ago for the first time when it was little more than a bright dot in the sky. As the game patches itself with updates, the comet gets bigger.

The idea, best stated by a paranoid reddit thread, is that this is actually an ongoing world event that will have some important consequences for the game. Fans believe that that comet is actually pointed toward none other than Tilted Towers, an area of the map where players scramble to get loads of weapons and gear early, and it’s supposedly an area that Epic wishes wasn’t so dominant in the game.

So, maybe they’re just going to nuke it.

This is a space-themed season, and the notion is that by the end of it, Epic will send the comet/meteorite crashing into Tilted Towers, destroying the whole area and turning it into a crater. Or maybe it’s not a comet after all, and some sort of alien spaceship that will lead into the extra-terrestrial concept of season 4 instead.

This sounds absolutely insane, but there’s no denying that the comet is getting closer and closer as time goes on. We’re definitely not imagining that aspect of it.

Whether Tilted Towers is going to be flattened or not is another story. I believe that there could be some sort of world event that happens when the comet hits, some way to expand the map further, or to inject something interesting into an unused part of the map. But I kind of have my doubts that Epic would destroy one of the most elaborately constructed sections of the current map just because it has a few issues. I supposed if they did destroy it, since the map is ever-changing, Tilted Towers could theoretically be rebuilt later on once the area “recovers,” and man, that would be one hell of a moment, I have to admit.

I have no idea how this is going to play out. The comet could mean nothing, just an easter egg that whizzes by the map during this space-themed season. Or it could be about to change everything. As this season winds down, we may know the answer soon enough.

Keep your eyes on the skies, my friends.
