Fortnite's fifth season is (very nearly) upon us. At the time of this writing, the servers are still down.
However, the patch notes for v5.0 are up and there's a ton of new stuff coming to the game, including a new desert biome.
There's also a brand new cinematic trailer which is even funkier than the weird comet-strike trailer that kicked off Season 4. In it we get a glimpse of some of the weird stuff we've already seen---like the rocket launch and the rifts and portals opening up everywhere---and some of the stuff we've yet to see, like viking ships and the new 4-person golf cart vehicles.
So the guy with the cat mask comes through the rift from our world into the game, along with the Durr Burger and the All Terrain Kart. From various leaks it looks like he's the Tier 1 skin for the Season 5 Battle Pass, and will be upgraded in a similar fashion to Carbide in Season 4. I'm not sure what to make of this new chief protagonist, to be honest.
All told, it's a very odd trailer that has me more curious than ever and eager for the servers to come back up so I can see what's going on with rifts, the new desert area, new named locations like Lazy Links and Paradise Palms, and just how soon I can get a Viking Outfit.
