Mumbai: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai airport Customs on Sunday intercepted a passenger arriving from Dubai leading to the seizure of gold worth ₹84.59 lakh.

Based on profiling and observation, AIU officials stopped an Indian national who only goes by the name Naveen. Interrogation of Naveen led the officials to the Jet Airways aircraft by which he had arrived from Dubai. The officials seized two gold bars of 1 kilogram each and two cut pieces of gold bar, totally weighing 3 kilograms. The gold hidden in his aircraft seat was valued at ₹84.59 lakh.

The passenger who confessed to the possession, carriage, and concealment of the gold in contravention of the provisions of the Customs Act, 1961, was arrested.
