Mumbai: A fire broke out at Malwani in Malad on Sunday, destroying a warehouse and several shanties. No casualty was reported.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. near Kharodi lake. The fire brigade declared it a level II (minor) and sent four fire engines and three jumbo tankers to the spot.

“The warehouse used to store film shooting equipment. The fire could have been caused by inflammable material, due to a short circuit or a stray cigarette. The blaze spread to nearby shops and shanties,” Dipak Phatangare, senior police inspector, Malwani police station, said.

The fire was doused by 5.42 p.m. “We are finding out the cause of the blaze,” a fire official who was present at the spot said.
