Funeral services for former Rep. Lawrence J. Hogan Sr., father of Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, will be held Saturday in Annapolis.

The elder Hogan, 88, died last week at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a stroke.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester Street, at 10:30 a.m. There will be a private burial in Frederick.

The governor, chairing a regular meeting of the Board of Public Works Wednesday, thanked people who have offered condolences since his father’s death.

“My dad was an impressive man who had a full and interesting life,” Hogan said.

Hogan Sr. was a Republican congressman from suburban Washington who served on the House committee that voted to recommend the impeachment of President Richard M. Nixon in 1974.

The congressman became the only Republican on the panel to vote for all three articles of impeachment against Nixon — an episode the governor regularly points to as an example of political courage and integrity.

The next month, Hogan lost a Republican primary for governor but was later elected as Prince George’s County Executive in 1978.
