Taboo broken for Santos who, after defeating Ceara on Saturday 2-0, won their opening match of the Brasileirao for the first time in 13 years. Speaking to Premiere, on loan striker Gabriel Barbosa expressed his joy at the clubs result while also playing down the fact that he was now goalless in his last seven matches.

“My goal will come, it is just a matter of time” said the Inter-owned Brazilian, “the most important thing for me is to give maximum effort and help the team to victory. If you didn’t notice, I was involved in the set up of both our goals today – this is important too. I am happy with my contribution.”

The Brazilian was one of the first signings of the Suning Group when they took over in 2016 – parting with €29.5million in exchange for the striker. After only nine appearances and one goal for the Nerazzurri, Barbosa returned to Santos on loan in January. The striker found immediate success in Brazil, scoring four times in his first four games before his recent dry spell.
