Though the melodies have matured, on Afterglow, the 24-year-old gives a poetic, intimate look at the inner workings of his mind, thanks to collaborating with his father, poet Einar Georg Einarsson. [Apr - Jun 2017, p.78]

It feels like a satisfyingly natural progression, but brave all the same. Because his first album was a big deal.

Ásgeir's music is far too complex and interesting to start writing off as advert fodder. There's a depth to his work that deserves to be burrowed into.

Although at times it can sound a little too carefully planned, there are some wonderful moments. [Jun 2017, p.23]

Unfortunately, Afterglow further embraces, and is overshadowed by, his influences. [Jun 2017, p.91]

Asgeir's voice, while mostly at the forefront of these songs, can be heard fluttering in the form of wisps in the background. His songwriting, in my opinion, has also improved from his last album. Some of the lyrics lean more on the generic side, which takes away from the effect of the album, but there are glimpses of greatness in the lyrics. Do yourself a favor and listen to this, I think it will be worth your time. Expand

Still good overall and great at times, but not great all the time. Expand

Complex instrumental arrangements which are in most parts original; although influences are apparent. Asgeir is an excellent musician: However I believe he is yet to find his existential or emotional self. Asgier, this album, although technically excellent is hollow.

Asgeir has a wonderful, perspective changing potential: But as mentioned, this album is hollow. Where are you in this album? Where are your struggles? Where is your heart? Where is your sound? Not a sound on a complicated MIDI sheet, but your sound, where are you?
