This was a lovely surprise: The first time I slathered on a tiny bit of the Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream (yes, it's a mouthful of a name), it absorbed into my skin quickly and without any greasiness or tackiness. Could this be the perfect moisturizer to layer under makeup? Why, yes, in fact, it could.
This moisturizer is formulated with three different molecular sizes of hyaluronic acid, as well as ceramides, to draw and lock in moisture from the air around you.
For the uninitiated, hyaluronic acid is a "sugar molecule that occurs naturally in the skin, [and] it helps to bind water to collagen, trapping it in the skin, so that skin can appear plumper, dewier, and more hydrated," Tsippora Shainhouse, a dermatologist in Santa Monica, California, previously told Allure. In practical terms, that essentially means that your complexion looks plump, nourished, and healthy.
Here's the irony, though: After I finish my morning skin-care routine, I usually dive right into makeup, but this moisturizer does a lot of the stuff I want my foundation to do — namely, it makes my skin look fresh and dewy. Since I started using it, I skip foundation altogether and only use concealer if I need extra coverage. As someone who has never not worn foundation, the Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream is a game-changer.
