All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Rachelle Lynch, 21, of Fremont County had her preliminary hearing yesterday, October 18th, 2019, for the death of 20-year-old Joshua Friday.

Lynch is currently facing two counts manslaughter; “involuntarily, but recklessly” and “voluntarily, upon a sudden heat of passion.” The court found “ample probable cause” during yesterday’s preliminary hearing and transferred the case with both counts to District Court for arraignment.

The Riverton Police Department was dispatched to 1315 S. Federal Blvd. twice on Tuesday, October 8th, 2019:

    • The first dispatch was to space #28 at approximately 4:59 am for a reported fight, “where individuals involved were reportedly brandishing knives.” Court documents state the responding officer “did not observe anyone with knives.”
    • The second dispatch was to space #42 at approximately 3:22 pm where Friday was found deceased and reportedly had “an approximate 1 and 1/2 inch clean-edged hole in his right lower abdomen.”

During yesterday’s hearing it was shared by Riverton Police Department Detective Sergeant Eric Smits that Friday’s autopsy was on October 11, 2019. Smits said, Fremont County Coroner Mark Stratmoen estimated Friday to have been deceased for approximately 12 hours at the time he was found. The confirmed cause of death has not been released yet.

Our earlier post shared, Lynch reported early in the morning on October 8th she had been drinking with Friday and another person in a vehicle outside of space #28 at 1315 S. Federal Boulevard. Friday allegedly “began to beat her and tried to drag her out of the vehicle.” Lynch became angered and “went looking for a weapon.”

Information from the reported third person in the vehicle was shared by Smits at yesterday’s hearing. The reported witness shared Lynch was giving Friday a hard time. Friday entered the residence and then returned to the vehicle where he allegedly assaulted Lynch. After the assault, Friday went back inside the residence and returned to the vehicle with a knife where he began “beating on the car.” The witness then reports Lynch went inside the residence and allegedly came out of the residence “running at Friday with a knife.” Witness reports the physical altercation was started by Friday.

County 10 will update when more information becomes available.
