'NBA 2K19' News: Comparing DeMar DeRozan's New Render To The One From 'NBA 2K18'

This article is more than 5 years old.

We could have found an in-game image of new San Antonio Spurs guard DeMar DeRozan looking sad, but that would have been pretty petty.

In case you missed it, DeRozan was traded away from the Toronto Raptors to the Spurs for Kawhi Leonard on Wednesday morning. The folks at NBA 2K quickly put together the screenshot above to show off DeRozan in his new uniform and his 89 overall rating.

As I've been doing all week with each reveal, I've grabbed a similar screenshot from NBA 2K18 to compare the likenesses. Take a look at DeRozan's comparison image below.

Which one is the more accurate render?

I'm leaning heavily in favor of the 2K19 render on this one. DeRozan's nose is more keen, as it is in real life. The hair texture is again more realistic. The 2K18 hair looks almost synthetic. That's been a criticism I've had of that aspect of the visual package for some time. This year, it seems that has been improved upon for every player we've seen, but all of them have had similar hair textures.

It'll be interesting to see what has been done for players with straighter or curlier hair.

As has been the case with the other renders, the new DeRozan has more pronounced muscle tone, sweat and looks overall more athletic than the previous version. 2K continues to find a happy medium between the 2K17 bulky renders and the overly thin models from 2K18.
