Process is an exercise in catharsis, a deep breath in that lays Sampha’s soul bare through gorgeous vignettes of his life. He worries, he regrets, he aches. He’s human.

None of it is particularly light. Sampha's exquisite melodies and detailed productions nonetheless make all the references to longing, disturbed sleep, injurious heat, and shattered glass go down easy.

Process is a moving, musical autobiography of futuristic, soulful electronica and brittle r’n’b.

While clearly not constructed with commercial ambition at the forefront of its mind, it’s certainly good enough to make an unlikely star of the man behind it.

Sampha's lyrics are clever and his voice so inherently likeable that it works. [Apr 2017, p.116]

The beat structures on the likes of "Reverse Faults." "Under," and "Incomplete Kisses" fail to match their vocal counterpart in aesthetic or sentiment. [Jan - Mar 2017, p.67]

Sampha's vocals are filled with emotion and are so raw and chilling. The beats are sparse and stripped back which allows for the vocals to take centre stage. Highlights include 'Reverse Faults' and 'Plastic 100 Degrees' which are both stunning and contenders for song of the year. Expand

While the sentiment present in each word evoked by his powerful yet soft voice makes this a great R&B album, the beats and melodies make it an electronic one.

It's hard to tell which genre is more prominent, but one thing is for sure: it's almost a perfect album, whether a R&B or an electronic one.

That's not to say I did notHonestly, no matter how hard I tried or how many times I listened to it, I just couldn't get into this album. That's not to say I did not enjoy parts of it. I loved the track "Plastic 100°C" and I absolutely adored "(No One Knows Me) Like the Piano", it's such a soulful and gorgeous song. The rest of the album, while enjoyable, like Kora Sings, I just did not really like. Sampha has a talent for song writing, but other than the lyrics I just did not like Process all that much, and I don't understand the building hype around it. Expand
