Americans defeat Planned Parenthood’s campaign to elect a pro-abortion president and Congress

Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, aims to turn eight states into abortion havens.

In what was likely the most hotly contested presidential election in history, president-elect Donald Trump took the win Wednesday morning, securing the vote for the nation’s top public office.

The pro-life movement pushed back against Planned Parenthood’s $30 million campaign to elect a pro-abortion president and Congress, voting into office pro-life senators and representatives to Capitol Hill. The abortion lobby’s extreme push for unregulated abortions through all nine months of pregnancy and forced taxpayer funding for abortion also lost at the polls.

Live Action President Lila Rose notes that the 2016 presidential election is a key moment in securing a pro-life future for America. She urges pro-lifers to hold Trump to the promises he made during his campaign.

“We have an opportunity to significantly move the pro-life agenda forward. But it’s critical that we act immediately to hold Mr. Trump to those pledges and that we convince Congress to go along with them,” Rose said. “You know that all too often, politicians get elected, and many of their promises get put on the back burner.”

Trump vowed on the campaign trail to appoint pro-life justices to the U.S. Supreme Court and defund abortion giant Planned Parenthood. His running mate, pro-life Gov. Mike Pence, promised to send Roe v. Wade to the “ash heap of history.”

Despite the eight-year gridlock of a pro-abortion White House, pro-lifers have continued to advance a culture of life — at the federal, state, and local levels.

Under Barack Obama —the most pro-abortion president in history — Congress sent a bill to defund Planned Parenthood to the president’s desk. However, in early 2016, Obama vetoed the measure. In 2015, at least 24 states took action to defund Planned Parenthood in the aftermath of videos showing top-level executives bartering over the body parts of aborted children. Several states investigated the abortion chain, and others worked to end the abortion industry’s gruesome fetal parts trafficking practices.

Americans are also increasingly pro-life. National data shows that more mothers today are rejecting abortion and choosing life for their preborn children. Through national education efforts and investigative campaigns, Americans are awakening to the horror of abortion and the brutality of the abortion industry. Hearts and minds are changing as they encounter the humanity of the child in the womb.

More work, however, must be done. In the aftermath of this historic election, the pro-life movement must unite together to create a public groundswell that convinces leaders in Washington that the time to put Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry out of business is now.

Election Day 2016 was a call for all pro-life Americans to stand up, speak out, and rebuild a nation that respects our most fundamental right — the right to life.

Live Action President Lila Rose commented on the election results, saying:

Planned Parenthood has been defeated at the ballot box. Despite the millions Planned Parenthood and its allies spent to elect a pro-abortion president and Congress, voters roundly rejected the abortion agenda of Hillary Clinton and the abortion industry that backed her campaign. When the abortion lobby pushed for unregulated abortions through all nine months of pregnancy and wanted to force taxpayers to pay for them, the American people pushed back.

Because of the pro-life pledges Donald Trump made during the campaign, there is now a clear path to end the public funding that enables the dismemberment, poisoning, or starving to death of one million innocent children each year. It’s critical that we unite to hold Mr. Trump to those pledges to defund Planned Parenthood, to appoint pro-life Supreme Court justices, and to ensure that taxpayers are never forced to fund abortions.

Planned Parenthood gets $1.5 million in taxpayer funding every day — nearly half of its budget — which allows it to keep its doors open and ruthlessly slaughter 887 children a day. It’s time to put Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry out of business. Earlier this year, for the first time in history, both the House and Senate sent a bill to President Obama to end the forced taxpayer funding of America’s largest abortion chain, and Obama rejected it. President Trump has pledged to — and must — sign that bill.
