BENGALURU: Amid the turmoil in the BJP, Congress is gearing up to appoint new office-bearers for the state unit of the party.
According to party sources, senior Congress leader
DK Shivakumar's name is in the forefront for post of
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president.
"The party is seriously considering replacing incumbent president Dinesh Gundurao with Shivakumar along with other office-bearers," said a senior leader.
A final decision is expected to be taken immediately after AICC working committee meeting to be held next week. Dinesh still has one-and-half years for his tenure to complete.
"The party has to appoint PCC presidents in two -three states. Along with those states, we are expecting a change of guard in
Karnataka too," said a senior Congress leader. Kumar, who is camping in Delhi for the past three days, reportedly met AICC president
Sonia Gandhi on Saturday and held talks.
Meanwhile, the party is also expected to take a decision on opposition leader since Congress legislature party leader (CLP) by default is functioning in that role. The party is yet to appoint him officially. "With
Siddaramaiah facing flak from former PM and JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda holding him responsible for the collapse of the previous JD(S)-Congress government, his supporters are keeping their fingers crossed," said a senior Congress leader.
