Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office, on Wednesday December 3rd, raided a Lagos hotel believed to be a hideout for internet fraudsters and arrested suspected internet fraud kingpin and 26 others.

A statement from the agency says the target was one Rasaq Balogun, a suspected internet fraud kingpin, whose illicit activities dominated intelligence gathered from the recently arrested ‘police spies’ during a raid on their Abeokuta base. According to findings, Balogun harbours an army of young men recruited to carry out financial frauds through the use of the internet.

Other suspected fraudsters were equally arrested at his Beckley Estate residence, also in Lagos State.

The raid on his hotel, Modzak Hotel located at Abule-Egba, Lagos State, sufficiently gave credence to the suspicion as a retinue of young men were caught haboured in his hotel with no specific mission.

The suspected kingpin and 26 other young men ranging between the ages of 18 and 35 years arrested, were brought to the Commission’s Ibadan zonal office for further interrogation.

Officers of the anti-graft agency also recovered three vehicles, fetish item, laptops, mobile phones and documents suspected to contain fraudulent data from the suspect.

Those indicted, the EFCC, said, would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.

@Nkiru....you're right there is a lot of joblessness in Nigeria. If I don't see what to do...I can surely find a place to go lift blocks and sand at a building site - until better help comes - than internet fraud. Issue is that the young men mostly want fast money. PRIDE, COMPETITION AND SHOW

90 percentage of Nigerian youths except for the Muslims are into internet scam or other fraudulent related activities and they are supposed to be the leaders of this country in the future. Wonder what the state of Nigeria will be like by 2050 if NIGERIA will still exist by them..... ( WHITE)

Why excluding Muslim? This cyber crime is general issue, as a graduate in Nigeria, if u don't have person in the government or even in private sector, sorry u can't see job, the little pay job u see, if u go late, they will minors 1000, imagin when u go late 5times, what of business people?, when u enter market, they will be begging u to buy because their is no market, no money to even buy it

Lazy fools. They keep making the weak excuse of not having jobs in Nigeria, but even when they move to developed countries they still continue a life of crime. Even when they make the money they still can't come up with any idea on how to earn a decent living. Filthy animals.

Politicians are the real thieves and they are oppressors who turned and put the young ones into this. Their families are enjoying our money in Dubai, they are buying big apartments in London and other countries. Building mad estates with our futures. Flying choppers everywhere, buying anything buyable. Sending their kids to foreign schools. These people are the real problems. We need to break up so we can reform everything. #Let’s just break up now pls.

Stupid Nigerians. Funny how some people manage to find a job, manage to live an honest life without scamming people, without scamming and stealing from women. Let them burn in Hell anyone who chooses this life.

A Yoruba man/woman wrote something on this blog a couple of weeks back saying Igbos were cursed because of this Cyber crime. This was a very terrible statement to make against your fellow human beings. How about this case, are the Yorubas also cursed? Always be careful before making such unwarranted statements.....
