Harry Souttar's big brother John is reportedly on the transfer short lists of Stoke City, Blackburn Rovers and Rangers as he heads towards the final few months of his Hearts contract.

Souttar, aged 25 and 6ft 2in with three caps for Scotland, is a favourite at Hearts but his last couple of seasons have been derailed by injury.

He is back up and running this term with 10 appearances already - and a goal against Celtic - and manager Robbie Neilson has been keen to keep him.

Neilson, whose side are currently second in the Scottish Premiership, said back in August: “John has a year left on his contract and we have opened up talks early to try and get it sorted.

“It’s been a tough few years for John injury wise and now it’s a case of focusing on getting back to playing week in and week out.

“We want to get him up to 50 - 100 games consistently.

“If he can do that then he will get back to his best and hopefully get in about the national team. Then everyone is happy.”

Souttar is one of 20 Hearts players whose contracts are due to expire next summer.

The Mail claims that there are "a host of interested teams keeping close tabs" on his situation, with clubs free to enter talks from January.

It has been Harry, aged 22, who has been in the headlines recently thanks to his performances for Stoke and Australia.

He moved south in 2016 and John has been proudly watching his progress from afar.

The boys grew up watching Brechin City, who were managed by Michael O'Neill - and for whom their dad Jack Souttar was an uncompromising centre-half.

Stoke already have a large pool of centre-backs, with Souttar Jr joined by Ben Wilmot, James Chester, Leo Ostigard and Danny Batth, as well as versatile Morgan Fox.

Connor Taylor and Will Forrester are hoping to make their breakthroughs too.
