Fashola begs Nigerians over poor state of federal roads

The minister of works and housing, Babatunde Fashola, has appealed to Nigerians to bear with the federal government over the poor state of the roads in some parts of the country.

Fashola, according to Daily Sun, made the plea in Abuja when he spoke with the executive and trustee members of the Public Transport Owners of Nigeria Association (PTONA).

The minister urged Nigerians to be patient and understand with the federal government since the latter was working to ease their pains.

He noted that the government and President Muhammadu Buhari find the transportation sector of the country very important and because of this, they have made efforts to develop it.

“We met with our contractors and work is ongoing in many roads. There is a distance between approval and construction of roads.

"By the time all these work is completed all we are saying will be a thing of the past. Please be patient” Fashola urged Nigerians.

Fashola said he would work with the stakeholders as the interest of the country is paramount.

Engineer Isaac Uhunmwaghu, who led the members of the association, said the body was created to work with the federal government for better lives for road users.

“We in PTONA thoroughly appreciate you for what we know about you in the past 12 years.

"We are however sad that despite all your efforts and best intentions, the perception by Nigerians about travelling on the road is extremely negative presently,” he said.

Uhunmwaghu said Nigerians are scared of travelling on roads because of insecurity and their poor state adding that the association is in support of Fashola's demand for additional funding of N255.6 billion for the infrastructure.
