COVID-19 Notes

We have 3 deaths/M/day.  Below is a sub-sample of countries that had no or almost no COVID-19 deaths in the last week – 0.0 to 0.23 deaths/M/day. Do they have a cure for COVID-19 or no?

The effect of 5-day course of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin combination on QT interval in non-ICU COVID19(+) patients, Nijad Bakhshaliyev et al., Journal of Electrocardiology, 2020:

“The combination of Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and azithromycin showed effectiveness as a treatment for COVID-19 and is being used widely all around the world. Despite that those drugs are known to cause prolonged QT interval individually there is no study assessing the impact of this combination on electrocardiography (ECG). This study aimed to assess the impact of a 5-day course of HCQ and azithromycin combination on ECG in non-ICU COVID19(+) patients. …

Conclusion: The 5-day course of HCQ- AZM combination did not lead to clinically significant QT prolongation and other conduction delays compared to baseline ECG in non-ICU COVID19(+) patients.”

Prolonged QT interval is an indicator warning about a risk of TdP or another arrhythmic event, not an adverse event in itself. studies say that QT prolongation happens in people treated with HCQ + AZ.

Effect of Chloroquine, Hydroxychloroquine, and Azithromycin on the Corrected QT Interval in Patients With SARS-CoV-2 Infection, Moussa Saleh, MD et al., AHA Circulation, April 29, 2020

“Conclusions: In the largest reported cohort of coronavirus disease 2019 patients to date treated with chloroquine/hydroxychloroquine±azithromycin, no instances of Torsade de pointes, or arrhythmogenic death were reported”

Covid-19: hydroxychloroquine works, a proof ?, France Soir, July 13-16. Shows sharp increased in COVID-19 deaths in Switzerland following the period when HCQ was banned.
