64 of JEE(A) top 100 opt for IIT-Bombay; IIT-Delhi 2nd choice

MUMBAI: IIT-Bombay continued to get students from the elite club of top rankers in JEE (Advanced) this year too. Of the Top 100 rankers in JEE (Advanced), 64 students have opted for and have been allotted a seat at IIT-Bombay, followed by 33 in IIT-Delhi. Last year, IIT-Bombay had 63 students from the toppers’ club. IIT-Kanpur had two students and IIT-Madras had one student from the top 100 ranks, this year.
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) allotted seats in the first round of admissions to IITs, NITs, IIITs and government-funded technological institutions (GFTIs) based on students’ choices.

Of the Top 500 rankers, too, 147 and 142 students were allotted seats at IIT-Bombay and IIT-Delhi, respectively. IIT-Madras and IIT-Kanpur got 53 and 52 students, respectively, while IIT-Kharagpur and IIT-Roorkee got 47 and 35.
Among the newer IITs, IIT-Hyderabad was picked by seven students from the Top 500 ranks. For the most sought-after course— computer science and engineering (CSE)—at IIT-Bombay, the closing rank was 63, indicating that most top rankers have chosen the institute over others. Last year, 47 of the 50 toppers joined IIT-Bombay. Shabnam Sahay, the national girl topper from Ahmedabad, also picked computer science at IIT-Bombay. The closing rank in the female category was 313 for CSE.
“Not just computer science, IIT-Bombay is the most sought-after institute in all disciplines. The institute provides an excellent ambience for learning for all students. We also have the most qualified faculty members hand-holding them to become leaders of tomorrow. Even if courses are new, the faculty is the same. They are highly qualified and experienced. Hence, we can offer a mixed bag of subjects and courses to choose from,” said Subhasis Chaudhari, director of IIT-B.
