Sixers Bell Ringer: Game 69 - Sixers down Kings with strong team effort

The Sixers are having a hell of a season, but for various reasons, they often don’t feel like they’ve... clicked. However, against the Sacramento Kings on Friday night, Brett Brown had his squad running like a machine. Philly received contributions from players up and down the roster on their way to a 9-point victory against a respectable Kings team. Each of the Sixers’ starters scored at least 18 points, the bench unit landed their punches when needed and the team as a whole only turned the ball over 10 times, which should delight Sixers fans everywhere.

Joel Embiid

On the eve of his 25th birthday, Joel Embiid threw himself a block party. The big man racked up four rejections on the night, being a terror in the paint. He also collected 17 rebounds and added on 21 points. And of course, The Process had a couple of dunks to get folks out of their seats. Embiid did have a few unnecessary/frustrating turnovers, coughing the ball up four times. However, upon returning from rest for the last three games, Joel continues to remind fans of where so much of his value to this team rests: in his defense.

Ben Simmons

Ben Simmons had a very solid if somewhat modest game. He was efficient scoring the ball, going 8 for 12 from the floor and nailing his only two free throws, continuing what seems like a trend of improvement from the charity stripe. Perhaps most encouraging was that Simmons turned the ball over ZERO times. As community member Schuler remarked in the game recap thread, “Ben hitting his free throws and him not turning it over... That’s the best version of Ben.”

Jimmy Butler

As many from Sixers internet have already pointed out: last night, the Sixers got the version of Jimmy Butler that they traded Dario Saric and Robert Covington for. Butler was all over the Kings, tallying a line of 20 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and a block on his way to a team leading +20. That’s the sort of all-around contribution fans want to see from Butler. Butler looked motivated and plugged in on both ends, and it was a refreshing sign that maybe Jimmy still has another level play that he’s... saving for the playoffs??

JJ Redick

JJ Redick didn’t have the overall box score impact that many of his starting lineup comrades had, but in a game where the Sixers did not exactly space the floor (just 13 3PA from players not named Redick), JJ was happy to fire away from distance. The sharpshooting veteran was 4 for 9 from the three on his way to 19 points. He also added in four assists.
