INEC Meets With Security Chiefs Over Governorship Polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it has effectively tackled all challenges of logistics experienced during the presidential and National Assembly elections.

Chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, made this known at a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on election security held on Thursday at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.

Yakubu reaffirmed that all polling units across the country will open for simultaneous voting and accreditation at 8:00am Nigerian time.

The representative of the National Security Adviser, Sanusi Galadima, who spoke on behalf of security chiefs, assured Nigerians of adequate security before, during, and after the March 9 elections.

INEC is to hold governorship election in 29 states, 991 legislative seats in all states of the federation, 6 area councils and 62 councilors for the area councils in the Federal Capital Territory. A total of 1,082 candidates will be elected by citizens of voting age across the country on Saturday, March 9.
