I can't believe it - OnePlus 6T Hands On

Just bought myself a OP6 last week after hearing OnePlus officially state there won't be a headphone jack. The phone looks awesome, but no headphone jack = no buy from me. I hope OnePlus sees a number of people buying the OP6 instead of the 6T because of this.

IDK why people are so upset about no 3.5". A phone is meant to be portable, so use it that way.

Looks like I'll be keeping my lg g6 for many years at this point. All new phones just look like downgrades to me.

I'm not about to replace my fairly expensive headphones for more expensive wireless equivalents and I often charge and listen to music at the same time so this phone unfortunately gets a no from me.

I'd be really interested to know if the dongle is analog or digital.

You can go the LG route again. V30 are fairly cheap and so much better in almost every aspect.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

What does having a headphone jack have to do with portability? If you're paying ~600 euro phone, it better have all the functions that you need. Among many things, a smartphone for many people is a portable music player, so if the headphone jack is among the top of your priorities, why shouldn't you not like the decision?

If portability is a priority, they wouldn't make it few mm longer and fatter nor would it have a 6.41'' screen, it would be a 4-5'' device.

Just not necessary to have one. It’s old an obsolete. People want their phones to look like the future, not the past.

Maybe it should have Ethernet too? Only a few more mm

it's obsolete when the audio industry says so, and no one is making any proper equipment with usb-c. Every high end manufacturer is still using 3.5mm jack, and basically everyone is, not even high end manufacturers, so it is still far from obsolete. Mind you OP has only removed the headphone jack, they haven't replaced it with let's say another usb-c, and that, for me personally, and many other, is a problem. Mostly the necessity of a dongle, or two dongles to be more precise. Also if you have a dongle and a DAC in the phone, the DAC in the dongle will be used, no matter how worse it is than the one built in the phone. Also a huge minus. There is no reason to remove it, we can still fit everything on the phone, headphone jack included, so there is no issue with space.

While we're at it, OP CEO himself made a poll about a headphone jack, and this was a response:

They basically ignored what their users want. People still want it. Not everyone but many do.

Actual phone sales suggest otherwise. You don’t have to buy the phone of course. Vote with your wallets, but the iPhone and USB-C devices with no jack have been selling like hot cakes.

iPhones would sell probably if they removed the screen as well. The only other phone that I can think of that actually sold well is the P20 Pro but that is literally only due to camera hype. You got any other? It is certainly not the Pixel 2. Mind you, selling like hot cakes is not an objective term since we don't know what the sales would've been it hey had the headphone jack.

According to MKBHD, he did manage to ask one plus what the reason to remove the headphone jack and the reason(s) they gave were
1) the in-screen finger print scanner/sensor

2) bigger battery
I am waiting for Jerry to open the phone and see how much these 2 items take up the internal space.

Then replace it with something better like a 2nd usb type c connector. Bluetooth is WORSE than 3.5mm port.

Also, I use my headphone jack to process credit cards. It is used for more than just headphones.

Hardly a typical use. Bluetooth is at the point where it sounds just as good for budget headphones.

The 6T is actually taller and thicker than the 6 so apparently they had no problem making the phone slightly bigger to fit the bigger battery and underscreen fingerprint sensor (I'm skeptical that takes up more space than a regular one though). I wonder how much bigger the phone needs to be to fit a headphone jack but I'd guess there is actually plenty of space.

And yet the #1 selling manufacturer in the world still includes them. false equivalence.

Side note, samsung can do 84-85% screen body ratio with facial (+iris) recognition, headphone jack, fingerprint reader, expandable storage, full ip68 rating, stereo speakers, etc etc. OP requiring a notch to only reach 86% (81-83 for Apple) is simply poor design.
