Saul Morse, Tiffany Mathis appointed to Illinois boards by Gov. JB Pritzker

Three people from the Springfield area have been appointed to Illinois boards Gov. JB Pritzker announced late last week.

Saul Morse of Springfield will serve as chair of the Quality Care Board while Tiffany Mathis of Springfield will join the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum board of trustees.

Henry “H.O.” Brownback of Ashland will continue to serve on the Mid-America Intermodal Authority Port District Board.

All of the appointments are pending confirmation by the Illinois Senate.

Morse serves as counsel at Brown Hay & Stephens, LLP, and has practiced law for over 50 years.

Morse is a member of the Illinois Capital Development Board and is co-chair of the campaign planning committee at the University of Illinois Springfield.

Morse also has served on multiple task forces, including the Governor’s Commission on Election Reform, the Governor’s Task Force on Research in Nursing Homes, and the Illinois Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan.

The Quality Care Board monitors and oversees operations, policies and procedures of the Department of Human Services inspector general to assure prompt and thorough investigations of allegations of neglect and abuse.

Morse's term is for four years.

Mathis serves as the CEO and executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois. She previously served as Youth Support Group Program Facilitator at the Phoenix Center where she aided LGBTQ youth. 

Mathis represented Subdistrict 5 on the Springfield School District 186 board of education from 2019 to 2021. Mathis serves on the Illinois State Board of Education's State Assessment Review Committee.

The board helps support, sustain, and provide educational programs and collections at the ALPLM.

Mathis' term expires in 2025.

Brownback currently serves as the vice president and professor emeritus of Southwestern Illinois College where he taught and administered for forty years.

Brownback formerly served on the Cass County board for nearly 25 years, resigning in 2018. He is a member of the A-C Central school district foundation. Five generations of Brownback's family ran the Brownback Drug Co. which was founded in 1847 and once had stores in Pleasant Plains, Tallula, Ashland and Athens.

The last store closed in 2006.

The port district board studies existing harbor plans in district and makes recommendations to appropriate governmental agencies, including the General Assembly.

Brownback's re-appointment is for five years.
