The Rockies once considered Jon Gray a budding ace, but he face-planted in 2018, posting 5.12 ERA, giving up 27 homers and failing to make the club’s playoff roster. He told the Denver Post yesterday that it’s because he was not healthy and fit enough in 2018 and that he plans to change that next year:

“My (velocity) was down this year. I was down about 20 pounds this year. I need to get back to 230-235 . . . I want to have the best offseason of my life, get huge physically, that’s what I was missing this year . . . I can’t wait to prove everybody wrong and show what I’m all about.”

We still have the league championship series and the World Series to go, but for now it sure seems like the offseason is getting into full swing.
