ANN May of Weymouth got in touch with her memories of going to the much-missed Gaumont Cinema in Weymouth town centre.

She recalls: "I was brought up in the flat above Lloyds bank as my father was the caretaker and the bank messenger in the 1940s and 1950s.

"I used to play with Margaret and Martin Carney, the children of the Gaumont Cinema manager Mr Carney, in their flat over the cinema.

"There was a flat roof area over the entrance where we played during the summertime. All of the rooms were very large so playing was easy and great fun.

"My parents would not let me go to the cinema as they said it was 'unhealthy' and I should be out in the fresh air - however I did go there once and that was to see the King and I, having sneaked in with the manager's daughter - naughty but nice!

"Happy times of my memories of the Gaumont Cinema here in Weymouth."

Thanks to Ann for the trip down memory lane.
