The police have taken suo motu action against a 19-year-old who assaulted his mother with a broom when she tried to advise him on improving his behaviour and giving up bad habits. The incident was caught on camera.

“The accused, Jeevan, is the only son of a couple from Chennammanakere Achukattu and studies in a private college. He developed an addiction to nicotine and alcohol,” said the police, who suspect this is not the first time he has raised his hand on her.

Neighbours claim it was an everyday occurrence. One of them recorded the incident on her phone and uploaded it on social media. It so happened that Annamalai, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), saw the clip. He instructed the police to take suo motu action and book a case. Jeevan is on the run. The police are on the lookout for him.

“The woman has refused to file a complaint as she is afraid he will abuse her,” a police officer said.
