Chief Minister Raman Singh, flanked by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, filed his nomination papers for Rajnandgaon seat on Tuesday. He touched Adityanath’s feet several times to “take his blessing”. Tuesday was the last day for filing of nomination for candidates for the first phase of Chhattisgarh elections, scheduled for November 12.

Speaking to reporters, Singh said he had full faith in his party workers, and that they would fulfill BJP chief Amit Shah’s target of 65 out of 90 seats in the Assembly. He said they would sweep Rajnandgaon district, where Congress MLAs now hold four seats out of six.

Amid infighting between BJP cadres after the announcement of 78 nominees, and many disgruntled supporters thronging the BJP headquarters in Raipur, Singh said that any decision on seats is taken with a great deal of planning and thought, and it is unlikely that any names would be changed.

Senior BJP leader Jual Oram and Arjun Munda accompanied candidates in Bastar division to nomination centres.

Meanwhile, at a rally, Adityanath attacked the Congress, alleging that they did not want the Ram temple to be built in Ayodhya. “There is no doubt that a temple will be built at his birthplace soon. The Congress does not want this and has always opposed this,” he said.

Festive offer

He also said that whenever there is a fierce debate in India, or a crisis, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi “escapes to Italy”.
