But it entirely depends on the design of the mech as to whether that's "safe" or not.

Aye, have a stash of spare wraps!!
Always good to have some, espesh if some mods are more prone to ripping up cell wraps.
Just make sure if you have different makes/types of cells to mark on the new wraps which cell is which!!!
