In the latest bit of news that will mean very little come Tuesday, the Sixers have announced the signings of Cory Jefferson and Darin Johnson. To make room on the training camp roster, Philadelphia released Matt Farrell and DJ Hogg, who were officially on the team for just two days. Perhaps foreseeing a similar fate for Jefferson and Johnson, Philadelphia’s social media team didn’t even bother creating a graphic to celebrate the latest arrivals.

As anticipated when they were signed, Farrell and Hogg will be designated as affiliate cuts by the team, with the hopes they sign with the G League and report to Delaware.
The #Sixers will designate DJ Hogg and Matt Farrell as affiliate cuts, so they will have the option to add them to their G-League team if they end up signing a G-League contract. Both were signed to camp deals on Wednesday.

Unlike the other guys discussed here, the 6’9” Cory Jefferson actually has some NBA experience, playing a combined 58 games for the Nets and Suns across the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. The former Baylor Bear played overseas the last two years, and appeared in both the Utah and Vegas Summer Leagues for the Spurs this past summer. Most recently, Melbourne United signed Jefferson ahead of their game in Philadelphia against the Sixers; Jefferson’s 2-point, 2-rebound performance apparently caught Elton Brand’s eye.
As for Johnson, the 6’7” guard played 45 games with the then-87ers last season, averaging 6.3 points in 17.2 minutes per game. In all likelihood, Jefferson and Johnson were signed with an identical affiliate cut end game in mind. Brand is using this final week before the start of the Sixers regular season to provide new Blue Coats Interim General Manager Matt Lilly with what he believes is a nice foundation for the G League squad.
If nothing else, the final Process Sporcle quiz is going to be a doozy.
