CHICAGO - A coalition of progressive organizations has joined ahead of the next gubernatorial debate to jointly outline a bold progressive agenda and to announce a major mobilization program in the closing weeks of the election season.
The newly formed Forward Illinois coalition will detail how new polling data shows broad public support across party lines for a bold progressive agenda that protects abortion rights, raises the minimum wage to $15, strengthens firearm restrictions, protects our environment and more. Additionally, the polling indicates that candidate support for the agenda increases their support amount the electorate but as much as 7 points.
The coalition represents more than 250,000 member activists across Illinois. Between now and Nov. 6, the coalition plans to contact and mobilize more than half a million Illinois voters around this agenda through an aggressive campaign including phone banking, door knocking, and a digital engagement strategy via text, email, and social media.
An announcement of the new coalition and release of poll findings and memo is planned for Tuesday, Oct. 9, 10 a.m. at 69 W. Washington, Chicago, IL 60601.
Groups involved are Sierra Club Illinois, Planned Parenthood Illinois Action, SEIU, Equality Illinois, Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights ( ICIRR ), Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence, Chicago Votes, Citizen Action/Illinois, and UFCW 881.
