Former Inter defender Fabio Galante is confident Inter have already closed the gap to Juventus in Serie A, despite last weekend’s defeat  in the Derby d’Italia.

Maurizio Sarri’s side took top spot off the Nerazzurri with a 2-1 win at San Siro, bringing Inter’s perfect start to the season to an end.

But Galante remains upbeat about his old club’s prospects in Serie A, as he told Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia today.

“I think they’re the two strongest and best equipped teams,” he said.

“Juve are the strongest. Like Conte said, it’s like climbing a skyscraper. Inter, however, are making great strides and the owners want to grow the brand even further.

“I think Inter are getting closer to Juventus. Already this year they are aiming to annoy the Bianconeri and I think this is important.”

Galante also discussed Serie A’s current crop of defenders, with particular attention given to two of Inter’s star centre-backs.

“I don’t see myself fully in anyone in particular, but in some I do a little,” he revealed.

“For example, at Inter I see myself a bit in Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij for my physicality and the way I play.

“Of course, I would have liked Leonardo Bonucci’s technique in order to be complete… in Italy there are many good defenders, like Kalidou Koulibaly and Kostas Manolas. The level is rising.”
