Alisson: Liverpool offer for Brazil goalkeeper accepted by Roma
Last updated on .From the section European Football
Liverpool have agreed a fee of about £66.8m for Roma goalkeeper Alisson.
The Premier League club are now expected to hold talks with the Brazil international.
The 25-year-old has been at Roma for two years, and played 37 Serie A games last season, after starting his career at Brazilian side Internacional.
Liverpool's bid, which is 70m euros, would overtake the current record for a keeper - 53m euros paid by Juventus to Parma for Gianluigi Buffon in 2001.
The Premier League record for a keeper is the 40m euros Manchester City paid Benfica for Ederson in June 2017.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was forced to defend goalkeeper Loris Karius last week after another mistake - this time in a pre-season friendly against Tranmere.
The 25-year-old German spilled a free-kick that allowed the hosts to score in Liverpool's 3-2 win at Prenton Park.
Karius was at fault for two goals in Liverpool's 3-1 defeat by Real Madrid in the Champions League final, but it was later found that he had concussion.
Alisson played all five games, keeping three clean sheets, as Brazil were knocked out at the quarter-final stage of the World Cup by Belgium.

Here is the net-spend for each of the big-six clubs since Jurgen Klopp joined Liverpool:
1 Manchester City
– £371m
2 Manchester United
– £252m
3 Arsenal
– £86m
4 Chelsea
– £72m
5 Tottenham Hotspur
– £19m
6 Liverpool
– £5m
The fans with the desperate ‘I thought Klopp doesn’t spend money' stick to beat us with; we just got £142m for Coutinho plus £80m from the CL, what do you want our owners to do with it? Just take it for themselves or let Klopp re-invest it?
Stay bitter, we will enjoy another world class signing :D
A good keeper is just as important, if not more so, than a good striker so the price is not really that expensive in todays game if he is really good.
...Up til now he's made these changes on a net spend of £5m. Klopp is boss
140m from coutinho plus 75 odd from champs league, spent on van dijk, Keita, Allison, Fabinho and Shakiri (cheap buy for squad build). Not a huge overlay there. And Salah signed a new deal, that’s a signing in itself.
Liverpool looking strong.
And yes, I’m a Man U fan!
Trolls: you’re boring.
I'm sure this one will be a much more civil, well measured, and intellectually gratifying discussion, aimed at creating a higher understanding of not just a goalkeeper decision or football, but also existential questions about our purpose in life and the how football brings that together.
I, for one, look forward to this discourse.
Alexander Trent Arnold, Jordan Henderson, OX and a few coming through
Someone tell me these aren’t class players that Liverpool F.C. have on their books
Goalkeepers contribution to the team are very minimal .

Brilliant! :)
Do you do stand up? When's your next gig?
Last team to win a league/major title with a dodgy keeper?
Of course goalies are going to go for top price, even unproven ones with "potential". We paid loads for Ederson, but i'm glad we did as he's been a rock since joining.
Alisson could do the same for Liverpool.
Why pay £67m for a foreign keeper who hasn't impressed anyone

What a moronic comment!
UEFA squad of the season.
Serie A team of the season.
1st choice for Brazil by consecutive managers.
Top 3 GK's in Europe on save percentage
Who is this 'anyone' you're talking about? Tell the idiot he knows nothing about football and needs to get out of his cave more.
Net spend under Klopp is almost ZERO.
I think that was before Fabinho, Shaqiri and Alisson but still, even if he does £100m in total that’s £33m/year which is nothing compared to most clubs at that level.
Liverpool are big contenders this year.
I dont see what FFP has to do with liverpool. They banked appox £146M from PL last season, £70M from champions league and £140 from sale of coutinho. So without even getting into merchandise and ticket sales they are £350M up. In last 3 years under Klopp their net spend was less than £1M. So they are working well within their means & doing great business.
