Let’s see how former Eagles looked in Week 9 of the NFL regular season

There was a lot of movement in Week 9 of the 2019 NFL season for former Eagles players, plus several others had really big games, and others performed in primetime.

During this week’s roundup, I discuss 4 former Eagles linebackers (Jordan Hicks, Joe Walker, Najee Goode, Mychal Kendricks) who are having super successful seasons with their new teams, 2 other linebackers (Zach Brown, Paul Worrilow) who were just signed, and 1 linebacker (LJ Fort) who helped hand the Patriots their first loss of the season.

THAT’S A LOT OF LINEBACKERS — linebackers and the kind of production from that position that the Eagles could certainly use, but no longer have.

Michael Bennett and his new contract

The defensive end is getting another chance to return as a consistent contributor after seeing reduced snaps throughout his time with the Patriots. And, while Michael Bennett was preparing to suit up for his first game with Dallas, he was also working to restructure his contract.

During his Cowboys debut on Monday Night Football, Bennett looked just as much the player he was in Philly. He finished the game with 4 quarterback hits, 1 sack, and 3 total tackles. The Eagles have seven weeks before they have to face their former teammate in the second rivalry game of the season.

Daryl Worley makes one-handed INT

The former Eagles cornerback made his first interception of the season on Sunday against the Lions, and did it in impressive fashion. Detroit took a deep shot to the end zone to go up by two scores, but Worley made an impressive one-handed grab for the interception instead.

Cardinals now have 3 former Eagles LBs

Ahead of Arizona’s Week 9 Thursday Night Football matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, the Cardinals signed their THIRD former Eagles linebacker, Zach Brown. The latest addition joins Jordan Hicks and Joe Walker.

Against the Niners, Jordan Hicks had another double-digit outing with 10 tackles, totaling 89 through nine games. Joe Walker has definitely stepped up the past two weeks, and had his second consecutive career-high game with 11 total tackles.

So, two former Eagles linebackers are having career-best seasons, and they’ve added another to their lineup. Great.

Former Eagles in London

This week’s international game featured the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans. The Jaguars were close to having to make a tough choice, with quarterback Nick Foles being able to return from IR. His backup, Gardner Minshew, was doing well in Foles’ absence, but his lackluster performance in London made the coaches’ choice a bit easier.

Linebacker Najee Goode continues to be a bright spot for the Jags this season, and he made 5 additional tackles on Sunday. Defensive tackle Akeem Spence hasn’t been quite as productive since signing with Jacksonville two weeks ago, but he earned snaps right away and continues to be a presence on defense.

On the winning side in London, wide receiver DeAndre Carter had one catch for 8 yards, and one kick return for 19 yards.

Bye weeks, roster moves and other notables

• Four teams were on bye in Week 9, the Atlanta Falcons (Kenjon Barner), Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Rams, and New Orleans Saints (Kiko Alonso, Patrick Robinson).
• Place kicker Cody Parkey was cut ahead of the Titans Week 9 contest to make room for the return of Ryan Succop from IR. The kicker didn’t get signed to a roster until Week 6, but he was really solid for Tennessee in three games.

• In the Chiefs win over the Vikings, LeSean McCoy wasn’t a huge factor, getting just three carries for 9 yards, and was only targeted with one reception. Similarly, offensive lineman Stefen Wisniewski didn’t get any offensive snaps, and just 6 snaps (18%) on special teams.
• Washington acquired two players who didn’t make the final Eagles roster, but they haven’t been utilized a ton. On Sunday against the Bills, Wendell Smallwood had 2 carries for 5 yards and 2 receptions for -2 total yards. On defense, Treyvon Hester has seen a reduction in his already small number of defensive snaps, lining up for just 2 this week, and 4 on special teams.
• In the Buccaneers loss to the Seahawks in Week 9, Beau Allen had one tackle and was credited with half of a sack for Tampa Bay — his first of the season. For Seattle, linebacker Mychal Kendricks had another big game with 4 total tackles, a forced fumble and a sack.
• Ravens linebacker LJ Fort saw 18 defensive snaps (27%) and 23 special teams snaps (77%) during the team’s Sunday Night Football win over the Patriots. Fort recorded three total tackles in the contest.
