A man was arrested at a University of Kentucky hospital Thursday after police found him with guns, body armor and what appeared to be bombs, authorities said.

Investigators are still trying to determine if 44-year-old Bryan Carroll intended to harm anyone at the hospital, but he is expected to face multiple state and federal charges anyway.

Campus police rushed to the scene around 11 a.m. after learning that a man “thought to be armed and dangerous” was visiting a family member at Chandler Hospital in Lexington, university officials said. The incident sparked a massive police presence, with federal agencies bringing at least one bomb-sniffing dog and a police robot to the scene.

Carroll was eventually taken into custody as he was leaving the hospital. Inside his car, police said they found firearms, body armor and two possible explosive devices.

He did not resist arrest and no one was hurt during the incident, according to police.

“No one was in danger at any time,” University of Kentucky Police Chief Joe Monroe told reporters at a news conference.

The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, also known as ATF, are assisting police with the investigation.

Authorities said Carroll lives in Versailles, about 13 miles from the hospital.
