What happened to Megan Fox, Hollywood sex bomb?

After small roles in three films, Megan Fox broke into the Hollywood scene with Michael Bay's high-octane, high-budget film Transformers in 2007. The film, which was a massive hit, had the potential to transform Megan's career and to a certain extent it did, until Megan gave an interview, which was considered scandalous, to British magazine Wonderland in 2009.

In the interview, Megan compared Michael Bay to dictator Adolf Hitler and Napoleon Bonaparte. She said, "He's like Napoleon and he wants to create this insane, infamous mad-man reputation. He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is."

She went on to say, "So he's a nightmare to work for, but when you get him away from set, and he's not in director mode, I kind of really enjoy his personality because he's so awkward, so hopelessly awkward. He has no social skills at all. And it's endearing to watch him."

Megan starred in the second film of the Transformers franchise, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in 2009, but things went south for the actress after the interview came out.

She was dropped from Transformer film Dark of the Moon, almost overnight.

Later, in an interview to GQ, Michael Bay revealed that Steven Spielberg, founder of Dream Works Pictures, the firm that was distributing Transformers, told him to fire Megan the moment he saw the Wonderland interview. Michael said, "You know the Hitler thing. Steven (Spielberg) said, fire her right now."

Bay also said, "I wasn't hurt, because I know that's just Megan. Megan loves to get a response. And she does it in kind of the wrong way. I'm sorry, Megan. I'm sorry I made you work 12 hours. I'm sorry that I'm making you show up on time. Movies are not always warm and fuzzy."

After her contract with the Transformer franchise ended, Megan worked in 10 films and four TV shows. Most of the films that Megan had a lead role in were major commercial and critical disasters.

Megan's film immediately after Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was Jennifer's Body. The film was written by Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody and was thought of as a success. The film, however, bombed at the box office. Though it featured other celebrities from Amanda Seyfried to JK Simmons, producers couldn't help but point fingers at Megan for the film's failure.

From being a media darling to their pet punching-bag, Megan's position in media too went through a drastic shift. The backlash was such that in 2009, New York Daily News announced August 4 as "A Day Without Megan Fox." A few other media houses too joined them.

After Transformers, Megan and Michael Bay did work together. Megan starred in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, produced by Michael Bay. The film was a massive success and minted Rs 6,000 crore in its lifetime. But that's the most Megan could get from the second lease of her career. The second film of the Ninja Turtles franchise proved to be a dud, dragging Megan's career to a new low.

Megan will next be seen in Zeroville, which will release in September 2019, but the audience already doesn't have much expectations from the film.

While Megan's career was at an all-time low, the actress focused on her personal life. She married actor and producer Brian Austin Green, and welcomed three sons with him.

But the Jonah Hex actress is aware of the mistake that cost her a promising career in Hollywood. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, she had said, "[Being dumped from Transformers] was absolutely the low point of my career. But without - 'that thing,' I wouldn't have learned as quickly as I did. All I had to do was apologise - and I refused. I was so self-righteous at 23, I couldn't see [that] it was for the greater good. I really thought I was Joan of Arc."

It's important to speak your mind. That's what makes a person unique in a room full of people. However, it's important that you measure your words, especially if you have the spotlight and a voice, because if not, a single miscalculated judgement can snatch that very spotlight away. And Megan's life is an example of the same.
