‘Elixir of immortality’ unearthed in ancient Chinese tomb

Finally, a stiff drink that’s good for your life span.

A yellow liquid unearthed in an ancient Chinese tomb is believed to be an “elixir of immortality” once thought to make noblemen live forever, archaeologists said Monday.

Archaeologists first said the 2,000-year-old potion was rice wine when they found it in a pot at a grave site in Luoyang in October, the Xinhua news agency said.

But lab tests revealed it’s actually made of potassium nitrate and alunite — the ingredients for an elixir believed to yield eternal life around 202 BCE.
