In 2017, Uganda based imprint Nyege Nyege Tapes released Sounds Of Sisso, a compilation showcasing singeli music from artists such as Bwax, Sisso, Bampa Pana and Yung Keyz Morento and MCs Dogo Niga and Makavelli, all recorded at Dar Es Salaam's Sisso Studios.
This new release from Tanzanian DJ and producer Duke comes from the neighbouring Pamoja Records, another hub for the experimental side of the pitched-up, high-tempo club genre. Although singeli has now reached the mainstream in East Africa, the productions coming out of these underground studios have a rougher style, mostly featuring MCs rather than singers, and incorporating homemade samples.
Uingizaji Hewa is released 8 March
