spencer trenary

One of the top seniors in Iowa has made his college decision as 3 time state place winner Spencer Trenary of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows is headed to South Dakota State University. Trenary placed 7th as a freshman, 3rd as a sophomore & was a state finalist as a junior finishing 2nd. He was also a 2016 Cadet Greco Roman National Champion and is a 5 time Fargo Cadet & Junior Nationals All American. Trenary chose SDSU over Northwestern, Campbell, Brown, and Grandview.

“I chose SDSU because it fit all of my criteria.” Trenary told IAwrestle “I fit in with coaches and team well, it was financially viable to attend, and the education I can receive here aligns with my future plans.”

Trenary added that “I’d like to thank the coaches and athletes I’ve spoken to for being honest with me in order to help me make the right choice for me. I want to reiterate how appreciative I am of everyone who’s helped me by giving their thoughts. I especially want to thank my high school coach Dan Gabrielson and club coach Carl Valley, they’ve always looked out for my best interests and that has held true through this college decision process.”

Trenary is ranked the 11th best wrestler in Iowa in the most recent Fab50 rankings and is ranked the #5 heavyweight in the country by TheOpenMat and #7 per Flowrestling.

He will join fellow Iowans Cade Devos of Southeast Polk & Skyler Noftsger of Ballard in the 2019 recruiting class as well as Cade King out of Owatonna, MN. South Dakota State already has Iowans Henry Pohlmeyer, Zach Price& Tanner Sloan on the roster.
