Inter legend Marco Materazzi spoke on the potential partnership of Mauro Icardi and Lautaro Martinez among other topics in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport on the sidelines of the Trento Festival of Sports.

“Icardi-Lautaro? They are a strong pair but it takes the right conditions to make them play together and it is down to Spalletti to decide. I like Mauro very much he has already made the club’s history books. He has been ‘chained’ to Pinetina for all these years and he has scored 103 goals in the league, and I hope that Lautaro will take the same path.”

Materazzi then spoke on the team as a whole and how they’ve got in this campaign.

“After a false start, Inter got back on track, in the Champions League nobody expected them to be there, with full points. With 10 points we can go to the next round then after that anything can happen.”

The Triplete winning defender then spoke on what he thought the best moment of completing it was.

“The best moment was when Zanetti raised the Cup, for all the Interisti it was the crowning achievement, I had already won the World Cup, then I had the fortune to win the Champions League with my friends.”

The Milan derby is next up for the Nerazzurri and the veteran of many derbies spoke on the game.

“It’s a unique game in its own right, but unfortunately the favourite does not always win, so I say that the favourite for this match is Milan [laughs].”

Materazzi concluded the interview of a player who he believes could follow in his footsteps.

“I like Bastoni and Mancini from Atalanta, but they have to show a lot. I also like Gian Marco Ferrari.”
