The Reds announced on Wednesday that the club claimed catcher Juan Graterol off waivers from the Twins.

Graterol, 29, spent most of 2018 at Triple-A with the Angels (Salt Lake) and Twins (Rochester). There, he hit an aggregate .301/.330/.354 in 219 plate appearances. The Twins called him up in late September but he appeared in only three games. In his career, Graterol has played in 61 major league games and mustered a meager .501 OPS.

With the Reds, Graterol will serve as organizational depth. The Reds already have Tucker Barnhart and Curt Casali behind the plate, but it never hurts to have insurance.
