Last Week, Stars Showcased Modern Minimalism
This summer, “less is more” has meant a return to minimalism and not mere skimpiness and bared skin, and hallelujah for that! Last week the world’s best dressed made the rounds of press calls and parties in looks with clean lines, subtle details, and beat-the-heat volumes. The sisters Haim exemplified the look at the Montecito Heights celebration in honor of Eckhaus Latta’s collaboration with Ugg. In double-breasted coat dresses and square-toed mules, the trio kept things fresh and deceptively simple.
Despite the heat, sweater dressing experienced a moment. Cate Blanchett’s Where’d You Go, Bernadette promo tour has yielded dozens of impressive outfits, but the standout this week was the refined dress from The Row she chose for an appearance at Today’s studio. A slate gray knit, paired with oxford flats and cat-eye sunglasses, it delivered discreet glamour and (hurray) comfort. Likewise, the Nanushka cashmere caftan Rihanna selected for a dinner date in Santa Monica was the very definition of cozy chic, its excessive volume cunningly offset by a thigh-high slit.
Of course, it wasn’t all neutrals and knits; elsewhere, stars had fun with bright shades and adventurous tartans. Zendaya gave the Teen Choice Awards a grown-up fashion statement in Jacquemus’s neon plaids and micro cargo shorts, while Blanchett’s Bernadette co-star Troian Bellisario went mod in a thigh-grazing Mulberry minidress with a graphic check.
